“Nathi’s Eulogy”, yet dying stay contagious

Often suicide deaths are surrounded by silence, by the shame induced by a loved one’s refusal to live. Relatives, friends begin to talk about tiredness, s/he “was tired of living” people use to say. This poem is a rebellious act against such useless, harmful tactfulness. Truth is necessary and healing, saying “suicide instead of tired” is necessary as reading the signs of a deep depression; this is what Xabiso Vili’s verses suggest. In order to save ourselves, our loved ones and all the people like Nathi, those brotherly friends we’d have never wanted to lose that way.

“Forget How to Die”, fighting against surrender

In this laic homely, the author speaks to the people attending a funeral – the umpteenth. Suicides follow one another, each time in different circumstances: nooses, bullets, cuts… So, this imaginary officiant tells the crowd that we are here riunited to forget how to die and to remember what is there inside us that keeps us going. And makes us declare “I’m ready to wrestle, bring your god and your death. If I lose, don’t you dare lay me to rest. Because my spirit is pissed and he’s fighting next.”

“For the Blues”, when hope is a faint rumour

A poem about the blues, that sad feeling that drags you down at the bottom of yourself and makes you question the sense of getting out of bed in the morning. Poetra Asantewa’s verses follow a young woman as her day unfolds and as her thoughts run one after the other. She tries to make sense of her anxiety and her inadequacy feeling instilled by society and politics, so inclined to crush new generations. But hope cannot be crushed because “Yet there’s something about the way an open wound aggregates and remodels to repair itself, that tells me that we’re here for much more than getting lost.”

“Per la malinconia”, se la speranza è solo diceria

Un testo che racconta il blues, la tristezza, quella sensazione che ti trascina giù al fondo di te stesso e ti fa domandare qual è il senso di alzarsi dal letto. I versi di Poetra Asantewa seguono la giornata di una giovane donna e i suoi pensieri che si rincorrono cercando di dare un senso alle sue angosce e al senso di inadeguatezza instillato da una società e da un clima politico che tendono a schiacciare le nuove generazioni. Ma la speranza c’è, sempre, perché “c’è qualcosa nel modo in cui una ferita aperta si richiude e rimodella e ripara da sola, che mi dice che siamo qui per molto più che sentirci persi”.

Those days blurred by the heaviness of being

“In which I tell you all the reasons I don’t want to exist and you tell me to remember” is the poem Poetra Asantewa composed for “Parole in folle”. Here she gets to the core of mental distress. A bundle of negativity generated by anxiety, depression, feelings of uselessness and impotence. A bundle that can be unfastened by a healing voice speaking hopeful words: “Remember that life is breaking all of us, and every breath we take is the body mending its brokenness. Remember that there’s living proof that this heaviness you feel is not new or alien. It is a mangled dark monster that has been battled and conquered by others before you and will be conquered by you too.”

“In cui ti dico tutti i motivi per cui non voglio esistere e tu mi dici di ricordare” è il testo che Poetra Asantewa ha composto per “Parole in folle. Qui l’autrice va al cuore del disagio mentale. Un groviglio di negatività generato dall’ansia, dalla depressione, dal senso di inutilità e di impotenza, che viene sciolto da una voce amorevole capace di guarire con parole di speranza. “Ricorda che la vita distrugge tutti noi, e che ogni respiro che facciamo è il corpo che ripara la sua rottura. Ricorda che c’è la prova vivente che questo peso che senti non è nuovo o alieno è un mostro oscuro dilaniato che è stato combattuto e conquistato da altri prima di te e verrà conquistato anche da te”.

“Les poubelles de l’espoir”, la colère de la terre

“Écoanxiété”, c’est ainsi qu’a été qualifié le sentiment d’appréhension en raison duquel beaucoup demandent un soutien psychologique. Une anxiété provoquée par la peur du changement climatique et le sentiment d’impuissance face à la dévastation environnementale. En Afrique, où les événements extrêmes sont à l’origine de catastrophes humanitaires, le problème est particulièrement évident. L’Afrique qui, selon les mots de Le Duo, “meurt sous les décombres des bâtiments de verre qu’elle a construits de ses propres mains, après avoir nourri des continents qui l’ont laissée mourir de faim”.

“La pattumiera della speranza”, la rabbia della terra

“Ecoansia”, così è stato etichettata la sensazione di apprensione a causa della quale molti chiedono supporto psicologico. Un’ansia provocata dalla paura per il cambiamento climatico e dal senso di impotenza di fronte alla devastazione ambientale. In Africa, dove gli eventi estremi sono la causa di catastrofi umanitarie, la problematica è particolarmente evidente. L’Africa che, nelle parole de Le Duo, “muore sotto le macerie degli edifici di vetro che ha costruito con le sue stesse mani, avendo nutrito Continenti che la lasciavano morire di fame”.

“Maux en mots”, guérir la maladie c’est partager

Avec la grande force expressive qui les caractérise, Zeinixx et Sall Ngaary ont ouvert le spectacle “Parole in Folle” (Mots Fous) en récitant ce texte composé pour l’occasion. La souffrance mentale est souvent sous-estimée et donc cachée, supprimée, pour ensuite se transformer en une submersion tumultueuse qui risque d’entraîner des conséquences désastreuses. Alors, écrit Le Duo, il faut parler, exprimer la douleur avec des mots, écouter avec compassion car “La paix intérieure [est] un combat quotidien, c’est sûr”.

“Dolore in parole”, curare la malattia è condividere

Con la grande forza espressiva che li caratterizza, Zeinixx e Sall Ngaary hanno aperto lo spettacolo “Parole in folle” recitando questo testo composto per l’occasione. La sofferenza mentale viene spesso sottovalutata e quindi nascosta, rimossa, per trasformarsi poi in un tumultuoso sommerso che rischia di condurre a nefaste conseguenze. Allora, scrive Le Duo, bisogna parlare, avere il coraggio di mettere il dolore in parole e ascoltare con compassione perché“La pace interiore [è] una battaglia quotidiana, questo è certo”.
